Tips and stories to add value to you and your organisation
Happy New Year to you and I wish you peace and prosperity for 2017 and as much sherry as you need to take the edge off any difficult days!
I often find the whole New Year party scene uncomfortable, celebrating a change in the calendar which has no particular relevance to the dispossessed, depressed or deserving.
It seems people make an effort at Christmas to support the homeless and those in need of care and yet little is reported in the news about New Year largesse, which seems to have been overwhelmed by the locations of 4k TV deals and where to find the best bargain sofas.
All businesses are nested in the community and many people take an active part in supporting cherished charities and good causes. These people are true modern business types, socially aware and generous with thought and deed.
I’ve surprised myself that I’ve given 4 hours a week to Future Radio for the last 5 years….I joined for a 6 week trial and never left! We engage the community and are a hard working charity and I love sharing my skills and being involved with local groups and businesses who get to be celebrated on air. I will be giving more time and expertise to them this year and can’t wait to get started.
I may do another sleep-out again as I was genuinely awed by the generosity of everyone who helped me to raise £700 to support rough sleepers and the invisible pre-homeless sofa surfers. Thank you for being part of an eye-opening experience!
My invitation to you is, as you tidy up the empty bottles from a great party, to add one community related activity to your business work this year. I do radio because I love it…no need for community work to be dull…so what could you do, or continue to do?
