Tips and stories to add value to you and your organisation
I like books and often buy books for my shelf…and sometimes I even read them! Having them is half the battle because I’ve found that I often need to read them at 10.00pm, when I’m preparing a workshop and am grateful that I bothered to buy that particular book many weeks ago…
So, in the spirit of better business, here are three of my current favourite books:
1) Shackleton’s Way (Morrell & Capparell). A book about leadership, that draws on the daring Arctic exploits of Sir Ernest Shackleton. Why Buy? …Because the book combines a thrilling story with sensible leadership tips, making it a joy to read and something to keep coming back to.
2) Getting Things Done (Allen). This book is the one to get if you need to improve the way you manage your time. Why Buy? …Because it is easy to dip into, is practical and keeps things simple with its ‘to do list’ philosophy.
3) Living Leadership (Binney, Williams, Wilke). The 3rd edition is out now and worth a read if you would like to learn about modern leadership styles and attributes. Why Buy? …Because the book is full of real life examples of successful leaders and also some of the ones that made a hash of it, making it both readable and enjoyable. Living Leadership is also a TA book in disguise, as it makes reference to Okness and celebrates thoughtful styles of leadership.
Three books to enjoy and of course if you have a favourite of your own please email me and let me know!
If you or a loved one are stuck at a career cross-roads then book four on this list would be Riding the Rocket (which of course is my sixth book). It’s out now and full of unique tools and models, including the career chooser grids. Click on the title to see the excellent space themed cover!
Whatever books you buy, have fun reading them!
